In the days and weeks after Matthew's death,
we were graced with a great many wonderful flowers. Some were sent locally.
Many others acted as long-distance embraces from friends around the country and across the globe.
Their beauty and fragility inspired me to capture them visually. Photographing some of the
flowers sent to honor Matthew's life became the first of many creative and meditative activities
that have been central to my personal grieving process.
The presence of these flowers eased the burden of a very sad house.
