lullaby for a lost mother

              in womb
              you spun
              in secret; swum
              and swept, and leapt
              and listened.
              beneath
              my heart you
              threaded rainbows,
              rounded mountains,
              rolled ashore.
              while bathed in love
              your eyes
              once opened; your
              lashes
              gently met.
              we
              missed you by
              a hair’s breadth; yet
              in our bruised hearts
              you sing.
