My Online Literacy Biography

     My name is Andrew Herbert.  I was born in Columbus, OH on April 2, 1986.  My current major is Physics, although I have no idea what I'm going to do with it yet (maybe engineering, I don't know).  I also happen to be a German/Irish American.  For my family life, I have 3 brothers ages 16, 14, and 12, and two parents who are in their mid 40s.  Growing up we lived between comfortably and well off, so I had access to many things that would later affect my literacy.  Both my parents work, my father teaches Physics at Xavier University, and my mother is in charge of computer technology for all 41 branches of the Cincinnati Public Library.

     In the early days of the world, my world anyway, I was blissfully unaware of the meaning of all of those little jumbles of weird lines that mother and father liked to stare at for hours and hours.  Every night they would read to me, and this constant exposure to reading developed in me a sense of love for reading.  My parents strongly emphasized the importance of reading and writing, for one does it every day: watching TV, reading the newspaper or a favorite book, looking up the recipe you're going to use for dinner.  All of these are constantly happening, and the more one reads the more one can understand.  Both of my parents are very well educated, and this is the primary reason why I am where I am today.  They wanted me to have the benefits of education myself...
